Anish Patel (Chair)
Anish has extensive experience as an investor, advisor, and operator of privately owned mid-sized companies, specialising in commercial and financial strategy. He started his career in the City at L.E.K. Consulting and Barclays.
Anish is currently on the Board of Governors at Epsom College and serves as the Chair of Governors at Harris Science Academy East London. He holds an MA in Mathematics from Cambridge University and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Dr Saima Rana
Dr Rana is the CEO/Principal of GEMS World Academy – Dubai, Chief Education Ambassador for the Varkey Foundation, and Founding Trustee of The Shahnaz Foundation.
With a background in school improvement across inner-city, state, and private sector schools, and a PhD in Education, Technology, and Global Politics, Dr Rana has dedicated her career to education. She combines school improvement strategies with a commitment to fostering collaboration among local, national, and international communities and businesses to accelerate regeneration and raise standards.
An experienced educational leader, Dr Rana has served as a Principal, senior education consultant, and panel member for various Department for Education (DfE) and Ofsted programmes and projects.
Dr Rana has a particular passion for building schools for underprivileged children worldwide. She is a trustee of charitable schools in Asia, a global ambassador for Girls’ Education initiatives, and a mental health ambassador for Refugee Mothers. She passionately believes that education is the key to eliminating poverty, inequality, and injustice, and she has dedicated her career to ensuring every child has access to a world-class education.
Jane Lunnon
Jane Lunnon became the first female Head of Alleyn’s School in January 2021 after six years as Head of Wimbledon High School and as Senior Deputy at Wellington School from 2010–2014 under Anthony Seldon’s headship. Jane is a trustee of the Royal Springboard Foundation, chair and founder of the Coalition for Youth Mental Health in Schools, a Trustee of the Dulwich Picture Gallery, and sits on the Board of Governors for the London Academy of Excellence Tottenham and King Edward’s School, Witley. She also serves as Co-Vice Chair of the GSA/HMC Joint Higher Education and Futures Committee.
Jane contributes to the Federation for Education Development and is a trustee of AI in Education. Her first book, The State of Independence, co-written with Dr David James, was published by Routledge in 2019 and examines the challenges and opportunities for independent education. Her second book with Dr James, Schools of Thought, was published in February 2024.
Jane was named Tatler Head of the Year in 2020.
Kate Baylis
Katharine Davidson Baylis KC DL – Kate is a retired KC who specialised in the financial aspects of divorce law, following an earlier career in international investment banking. She lives on Dartmoor and now oversees the family tourist attraction, Canonteign Falls. Kate is a Deputy Lieutenant of Devon and holds various trusteeships. She is also on the Council of Epsom College.
Pooven Maduramuthu
Pooven has extensive experience in helping public sector organisations improve efficiency through business change transformation and digital technology implementation. Currently, Pooven is working with the NHS to leverage digital solutions for better healthcare delivery.
He holds an Executive MBA from the London Business School and a PhD from Imperial College London.
Professor Neil Lawrence
Neil Lawrence is the inaugural DeepMind Professor of Machine Learning at the University of Cambridge, where he leads the University’s flagship AI mission, AI@Cam. With over 25 years of experience in machine learning, Neil returned to academia in 2019 following a three-year tenure as Director of Machine Learning at Amazon.
His primary focus is the interaction of machine learning with the real world—a passion sparked by deploying machine learning in the African context, where comprehensive ‘end-to-end’ solutions are often essential. This work has inspired new research at the interface of machine learning and systems, supported by a Senior AI Fellowship from the Alan Turing Institute.
Neil has held several influential roles, including interim Chair of the CDEI Advisory Board, independent advisor to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, and participant in working groups with the Royal Society. He also co-convened the Royal Society’s DELVE initiative, a multidisciplinary effort to address the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition, Neil is a Visiting Professor at the University of Sheffield and co-host of the podcast Talking Machines. He is also the author of The Atomic Human.
Rob Isaac
Rob brings over 40 years of experience in the maintained education sector, with nearly 30 years serving on senior leadership teams. His responsibilities have included oversight of educational technology innovations, data protection, compliance, and capital projects.
Rob has extensive expertise in large-scale capital project management, having successfully overseen three new school builds from inception to completion, alongside numerous high-value projects. He also has significant change management experience, particularly in implementing impactful educational technology initiatives.
A firm believer in the transformative power of educational technology, Rob is convinced that AI is an essential classroom tool that can equally support learners and teachers. As one of the founding members of AI in Education, Rob is now looking forward to supporting the organisation as a trustee, helping to guide its next phase of development.
